When should we hold our newborn session?
Newborn sessions are best held within the first 2 weeks. Babies at that time still love to curl up close (just like they did in the womb), resulting in sweet, cozy photos. After 2 weeks old, baby acne can also start to set in, so it is optimal to hold the session before then.
How long does a newborn session last?
Newborn sessions typically last 2-3 hours. We generally start with family and sibling shots and then do several setups with just baby. We will be on baby's schedule, so there is plenty of time in there to feed baby and soothe as needed. I will have the studio nice and warm to make baby comfortable and will play white noise to mimic the sound of the womb. To help with soothing, a pacifier can sometimes be helpful to calm baby during posing for your beautiful photographs.
Do I need to bring outfits?
I think that baby's bare skin is best to photograph at this age as outfits can usually be too large and hide those tiny fingers, toes, and features. I love to use blankets, headbands, and other props in my studio to add texture and interest to the photo. If you do have a special outfit though that you would like to use, I would love to use it in photos as well.
What do I need to wear for the family and sibling photos?
I find that simple is best and focuses the attention on your sweet new baby. Most moms and dads choose to both wear a black shirt and jeans or white/cream and jeans. Both can be very flattering for a new mommy and are timeless and classic.
